Culla Cottage has been tastefully restored to offer high quality self catering accommodation for those wishing to visit one of the most scenic places in the United Kingdom.
Located in the township of Aird, just yards from a beautiful beach, Culla Cottage is the last remaining traditional cottage found on the West coast of Benbecula, one time serving as the local Post Office. The completed cottage has a thatched roof and rebuilt stone wall. Culla Cottage is central to the neighbouring islands and only two minutes’ drive from the local supermarket, P.O, & bank, the cottage also boasts a fantastic restaurant and Chinese takeaway nearby.
The area is a designated SSSI (site of special scientific interest). It lies on a working croft where traditional crofting practices include using seaweed to fertilise the ground, spring cultivation and sowing, late harvesting and rotational cropping where the ground is left fallow for two to three years between crop growing seasons. These methods enable breading birds and insects such as the corncrake, lapwing and the great yellow bumble bee to thrive amongst the wildflowers.
